Remote Start & Security FAQ

Remote start means being able to start your vehicle from a distance using a remote controlor in the case of Automate SmartStartyour smartphone. This allows you to have the vehicle warmed up in cold weather or cooled down in hot weatherbefore you get in to drive it. This may seem like a luxury but in extreme climates it is virtually a necessity as well as a safety factor.

Yes. Several vehicles can be linked to a single phone. A separate Automate system will have to be installed in each vehiclebut after that you can control any of your vehicles with any smartphone you’ve authorized.

To replace the battery on older remotes you will need to locate a small, single screw on the back of the remote (these are usually black, 2-button remotes). Remove that screw and the case will separate in the middle exposing the circuit board/battery. These batteries are usually 12 volts, and are smaller than a AAA battery. Simply match the model number of the battery at your local drug store and replace.

On newer remotes there is no screw. There is a small notch in the seam of the two halves of the remote, usually towards the bottom of the remote. Take a flat blade screwdriver and gently pry the two halves apart using this notch. This will expose the circuit board and the battery. The battery on newer remotes is usually a CR2016, CR2032, etc. These batteries are about the size of a nickel.

You will want to replace the battery once every 12 months to ensure proper and reliable operation.

Yes, all remotes must be programmed before they will operate the system. Due to the volume of units that have been manufactured over the past 20 years, and the complexity of programming the remotes on some of those units, we recommend visiting us at Auto Additions for remote programming.
